David's Natural Toothpaste, Inc., a company that markets its toothpaste as natural and healthy, is facing a class action lawsuit. The suit alleges that the company's products contain perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), synthetic chemicals that are slow to break down and allegedly have been linked to health issues such as increased cholesterol, hormonal changes, decreased fertility, and an alleged increased risk of certain cancers.
The plaintiffs in the case, Alexandra Schoeps and Marley Stubblefield, are representing themselves and others who have purchased David's Antiplaque & Whitening Fluoride-Free Premium Natural Toothpaste. They claim that a Department of Defense ELAP-certified laboratory found over 6 parts per billion of PFAS in the product.
The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California by attorneys L. Timothy Fisher, Joshua R. Wilner, and Joshua B. Glatt from Bursor & Fisher, P.A.
The plaintiffs are accusing David's Natural Toothpaste of violating California’s Unfair Competition Law and Consumers Legal Remedies Act.
