In a recent court filing, a California resident has taken legal action against a prominent hotel chain, alleging negligence and premises liability that resulted in severe personal injuries. The complaint was filed by Claudia Barzee on June 7, 2024, in the Superior Court of California for the County of Sacramento against Easun, Inc., Doubletree by Hilton Sacramento, Hilton LLC, and several unnamed defendants.
According to the court documents, Claudia Barzee and her husband traveled from San Diego to Sacramento on June 11, 2022, for a business convention. They had reserved a room at the Doubletree by Hilton Sacramento. Upon their arrival at approximately 10:00 p.m., they encountered poorly lit parking areas with ongoing construction. Despite checking in via the Hilton app and receiving a digital key, they faced difficulties accessing their room due to malfunctioning mobile keys.
As they navigated through the confusing layout of the hotel premises to find an entrance, Claudia Barzee tripped over broken and uneven pavement. The lawsuit claims that this hazardous condition was negligently maintained by the defendants. The complaint states: "Plaintiff started walking towards one of the hotel buildings when she tripped and fell due to an unreasonably dangerous condition of property at the SUBJECT HOTEL."
The plaintiff's allegations extend beyond mere negligence; she asserts that all named defendants failed in their duty to maintain safe premises. This includes failing to properly manage and supervise employees responsible for maintaining the parking area where she fell. Additionally, Barzee claims that there were no warning signs or adequate lighting to alert guests about potential hazards.
Barzee's lawsuit accuses the defendants of breaching their statutory and common law duties by not remedying known dangerous conditions despite having actual or constructive notice of these issues. She argues that these failures directly led to her fall and subsequent injuries which required medical treatment.
In her complaint, Barzee is seeking various forms of relief from the court. These include general, special, actual, and compensatory damages for her physical injuries as well as mental suffering. She also seeks reimbursement for medical expenses incurred due to her injuries and compensation for future medical costs. Additionally, she demands compensation for past and future lost wages resulting from her inability to work due to her injuries.
The case is being handled by attorneys Christian C. Haffner (SBN 248962) and Timothy T. Morgan (SBN 280054) from Haffner & Morgan LLP based in San Diego. The case has been assigned Case No: 2 4020011 3-4 in the Superior Court of California for the County of Sacramento.
