A Santa Clara County resident has filed a lawsuit alleging negligence against a local roofing company. On August 28, 2024, Richard Bebb submitted the complaint in the Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara, targeting Jireh, Inc., doing business as Los Gatos Roofing.
According to the complaint, Bebb claims that on September 21, 2022, Los Gatos Roofing was contracted to perform roofing work at his residence located at 1508 Country Club Drive in Los Altos. The plaintiff asserts that while the workers were on a lunch break, they left an electrical cord carelessly strung across an exterior door he frequently used to check on their progress. As Bebb exited through this door around 1:00 p.m., he tripped over the cord and suffered significant injuries to his neck, back, and left shoulder.
Bebb's legal team argues that Los Gatos Roofing breached its duty of reasonable care by creating a hazardous condition with the improperly placed electrical cord. The complaint states: "Defendants knew or should have known of the dangerous condition created by aforementioned the electrical cord." This alleged negligence resulted in severe physical and emotional distress for Bebb. He claims ongoing pain and suffering due to injuries sustained from the fall and anticipates some permanent disability.
The plaintiff is seeking general damages for his injuries as well as compensation for past, present, and future medical expenses. Additionally, he requests interest on compensatory damages from the date of injury and reimbursement for court costs. The case highlights concerns about workplace safety standards and contractor responsibilities.
Representing Richard Bebb are attorneys Paul F. Caputo and Kathryn H. Montaperto from Caputo & Van Der Walde LLP. The case is being overseen by Judge J. Nguyen under Case No.: 24CV446188.
