Ryan Bettencourt has filed a class action lawsuit against Movement Holdings, LLC and its associated entities in the Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara, on January 2, 2025. The lawsuit accuses the defendants of multiple labor law violations, including failure to pay minimum wages and maintain accurate records.

The complaint, led by Bettencourt on behalf of himself and other similarly affected employees, alleges that Movement Holdings failed to compensate non-exempt hourly employees for all hours worked. This includes time spent preparing for classes and cleaning up afterward without being clocked in. Bettencourt claims these practices violate several sections of the California Labor Code and the Unfair Competition Law. The lawsuit also highlights issues with wage statements that inaccurately listed the employer's name and did not reflect all hours worked.

Bettencourt seeks unpaid wages, reimbursement for business expenses like cell phone use and music subscriptions necessary for his job as a yoga instructor, penalties for late wage payments upon termination, and injunctive relief to prevent further unfair practices. Additionally, he is pursuing civil penalties under the Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) for labor code violations affecting numerous employees across California.

Representing Bettencourt is Cheryl A. Kenner from Abramson Labor Group. The case is being reviewed by Judge M. Arechiga under Case No.: 25CV455566.
