SAN FRANCISCO – A Texas company is suing an unknown defendant over allegations of illegal downloading.
Dallas Buyers Club LLC filed a complaint on Feb. 20 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against DOE 73.202.228.252, citing copyright infringement.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, between Jan. 5 and Feb. 16, DOE 73.202.228.252 allegedly used peer-to-peer file sharing site BitTorrent to make unauthorized copies of plaintiff's movie, "Dallas Buyers Club," to distribute to other subscribers. The suit states that geolocation technology traced the Internet Protocol address to the district of this court.
The plaintiff seeks the following: compensation for all damages including destroying copies of plaintiff's motion picture acquired through unauthorized means, legal fees, and any other relief this court deems just and proper.
