Los Angeles company claims copyright violation

SAN FRANCISCO – A Los Angeles media company is suing an unknown person over claims that the defendant knowingly violated copyright law by distributing unauthorized copies of its works.

Malibu Media LLC on Feb. 29, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against John Doe subscriber assigned Internet Protocol address 50.131.163.30, citing alleged copyright infringement.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that it sustained damages on its business due to its works being distributed without any consent. The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible because the defendant allegedly used BitTorrent software to download and distribute copies of the plaintiff's works.

The plaintiff seeks the following: compensation for all damages, order the defendant to delete the alleged infringing copies of plaintiff's works, legal fees and any other relief the court deems just and proper. It is represented by Brenna E. Erlbaum and Brian Heit of Heit Erlbaum LLP in Newbury Park.
