Consumer sues pharmaceutical companies over alleged negligence

SAN FRANCISCO – A Glenn County man is suing several pharmaceutical companies over allegations a drug caused him harm.

Raymond J. Collette filed a complaint on March 1 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Wyeth Pharmaceuticals Inc., Sandoz Pharmaceuticals Corp., Sandoz Inc., Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp. and Eon Labs Inc., formerly known as Eon Labs Manufacturing Inc., citing negligence and failure to warn.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he was diagnosed with mild atrial fibrillation in 2011 and was prescribed with Amiodarone, which only made his conditions worse. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because the Food and Drug Administration has allegedly not approved of the drug as a treatment for his condition and he was not given the FDA-required medication guide that states the complications of using the drug.

The plaintiff seeks the following: compensation for all damages, interest, legal fees, injunctive relief for selling Amiodarone without medication guide and any other relief the court deems just and proper. He is represented by Alan M. Mansfield of Consumer Law Group of California in San Diego and Chris W. Cantrell of Cantrell Law Firm in Chula Vista.
