Gerald “Jerry” Peters
SAN FRANCISCO – The California Integrated Data Exchange, also known as Cal INDEX, appointed recently retired attorney Gerald “Jerry” Peters as general counsel last month.
Peters is Cal INDEX’s first full-time general counsel; and with more than 30 years of experience, he is a welcomed new addition to the team.
“His amazing pedigree as a former chair of Latham & Watkins’ Healthcare and Life Sciences Practice Group comes with 25 years of health care-specific experience involving strategic business planning,” Chief Executive Officer for Cal INDEX David Watson told the Northern California Record.
Peters’ practice focused on various parts of the health care industry, including business and transactional matters. He has a long history of working closely with hospitals, physicians and service providers. Watson said these will be most beneficial to Cal INDEX.
“His biggest asset is his expertise in business, transactional and health care matters that will prove invaluable to Cal INDEX as we add participants and bring on new services,” Watson said.
Peters served as outside counsel and lead attorney for various providers, focusing mainly on strategic business planning. He has been recognized in many health care publications, has authored and co-authored several books, served as an adjunct professor, and received countless accolades. Peters was name one of America’s top 10 health care lawyers by Legal Media Group, as well as one of the top attorneys in Northern California by San Francisco Magazine and American Registry. He retired from private practice in December 2015.
“Jerry not only has impeccable credentials, he has a special affinity for Cal INDEX’s mission to improve the quality of care by providing clinicians with a unified statewide source of integrated patient information, improve efficiencies and coordination of care, and reduce the cost of health care,” Watson said.
Cal INDEX is a nonprofit organization that aids health care professionals to safely share information and records. The organization provides nurses, physicians and hospitals with access to more than 9 million information records. It is available to all hospitals and doctors in California.
