SAN FRANCISCO – A Texas company is suing an unknown Internet user over allegations of copyright infringement.
Dallas Buyers Club LLC filed a complaint on March 9 in the U.S. District Court Northern District of California against DOE-69.181.52.57 alleging that the subscriber unlawfully participated in distribution of plaintiff's motion picture through BitTorrent.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that it lost profits and suffered damages to its business because of illegal distribution of its motion picture "Dallas Buyers Club." The plaintiff holds DOE-69.181.52.57 responsible because the defendant allegedly distributed unauthorized copies of plaintiff's motion picture by using peer-to-peer software such as BitTorrent.
The plaintiff seeks the following: permanent injunction prohibiting such actions in the future by the defendant, an order to destroy all copies of plaintiff's motion picture obtained through illegal means, legal fees and any other relief as this court deems just and proper. It is represented by James S. Davis of James S. Davis Attorney at Law in Chula Vista.
