SAN FRANCISCO – A California woman is suing three pharmaceutical companies over allegations a drug used to treat cancer caused permanent hair loss.

Ami Dodson filed a complaint on March 14 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Sanofi S.A., Aventis Pharma S.A. and Sanofi-Aventis U.S. LLC, citing alleged fraudulent misrepresentation, negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she suffered permanent alopecia, or permanent hair loss, by taking Taxotere to treat her breast cancer. Although hair loss is a common side for chemotherapy patients, it is temporary, the suit states. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to properly inform consumers of the potential risk of using the drug Taxotere.

The plaintiff seeks the following: compensation for all damages, all legal fees, and any other relief as the court deems just and proper. She is represented by Anna Dubrovsky of Anna Dubrovsky Law Group Inc. in San Francisco.
