Woman accuses televangelist, ministry of harassing phone calls

Phone 04

SACRAMENTO – A Sacramento woman alleges that a ministry connected to a televangelist has made several harassing phone calls to her mobile phone.

Jeanette Taylor filed a complaint on behalf of all others similarly situated on April 27 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California against World Healing Center Church Inc., doing business as Benny Hinn Ministries, and Toufik Benedictus Hinn, citing violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that since August 2015, she received several phone calls on her mobile telephone from the defendants. She alleges she has never had contact with the defendant before and has not consented to receive these calls. The plaintiff holds World Healing Center Church Inc. and Toufik Benedictus Hinn responsible because the defendants allegedly called plaintiff using an automated dialing system and pre-recorded voice.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks injunctive relief, treble damages in the amount of $1,500 for each call made that violated the TCPA, $500 in statutory damages for each call that violated the TCPA, all legal fees and any other relief as this court deems just. She is represented by L. Timothy Fisher, Annick M. Persinger and Yeremey O. Krivoshey of Bursor & Fisher PA in Walnut Creek and Scott A. Bursor of Bursor & Fisher PA in New York, New York.
