SAN FRANCISCO – A songwriter has filed suit against an unknown YouTube user over allegations the user illegally distributed his works without permission.
William Patrick Corgan filed a complaint on April 4 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against John Doe, alleging copyright infringement.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in March 2016, the YouTube user Blurry Vision uploaded 20 different performances of the plaintiff's songs. The suit states that the defendant alleged that the videos were recorded at a concert where recording was permitted, while the plaintiff alleges they were from a studio performance that was never authorized for distribution.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks actual damages to be determined in trial, statutory damages, permanent injunction against the defendant, all legal fees and any other relief as this court deems just. He is represented by Jill H. Berliner and Richard J. Mooney of Rimon PC in Los Angeles.
