FRESNO – A nonprofit corporation seeks declaration that proposed logging projects in the Sequoia National Forest violate federal law.

Sequoia Forestkeeper filed a complaint on June 1 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California, Fresno Division against Eric La Price, Alfred Watson, Kevin Elliott and the United States Forest Service seeking declaratory relief.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that the defendants allegedly implemented the Frog Timber Sale Project and the Rancheria Forest Restoration Project without analyzing the impact it may cause on the national forest, required under the National Environmental Policy Act. The group claims that these projects will affect the Pacific fisher and American marten.

The plaintiff seeks enjoin defendants from continuing with the projects until proper analysis has been completed, an order for the defendants to prepare Environmental Impact Statements, all legal fees and any other relief as this court deems just. It is represented by Rachel S. Doughty and René P. Voss of Greenfire Law PC in Berkeley.
