SAN FRANCISCO – A U.S. Navy veteran is suing a Maine company and its CEO alleging it misled him about the company's finances and left him without a job.
Brian Steckler filed a complaint on June 8 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against the defendants alleging fraud, negligent misrepresentation and other counts.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, in December 2015, he resigned from his employment with the Naval Postgraduate School and the Department of Defense after being offered an executive post with the defendants. However, the suit states that plaintiff learned that the defendant company had no operating capital, which left him unable to return to his previous employer and thus without a job. The plaintiff holds Smarter Risk Corp. and Largay responsible because Largay allegedly made false representations about the financial capacity and stability of SRC to plaintiff in order to entice him to leave his previous position and benefits to join the defendant company.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks special and economic damages including back pay and front pay, non-economic damages, punitive damages, interest and any other relief as this court deems just. He is represented by Randall E. Strauss and Robert J. Schwartz of Gwilliam, Ivary, Chiosso, Cavalli & Brewer in Oakland.
