SAN FRANCISCO – A Marin County resident alleges she was wrongfully terminated after voicing complaints of gender discrimination.
Katherine Oster filed a complaint on June 9 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Caithness Corp., Caithness Energy LLC, Caithness Development LLC, Leslie Gelber and Does 1-100 citing breach of oral contract, discrimination, wrongful termination and intentional misrepresentation.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she experienced discrimination from her male co-workers and did not receive the 1 percent equity interest promised to her by the defendants for each project she brought to the companies. The plaintiff holds Caithness Corp., Caithness Energy LLC, Caithness Development LLC, Leslie Gelber and Does 1-100 responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to act to prevent plaintiff from being discriminated against by her co-workers as well as failed to provide her the 1 percent equity interest that was previously promised. The suit states that the defendants ultimately terminated plaintiff's employment in January for voicing out her opinion about the company treating her less favorably than her male co-workers.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks special and economic damages including back pay and front pay, benefits and consequential damages, general and noneconomic damages, punitive damages, interest, liquidated damages, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by J. Gary Gwilliam, Randall E. Strauss and Jayme L. Walker of Gwilliam Ivary Chiosso Cavalli & Brewer in Oakland.
