Woman alleges Sun Life and Health Insurance Co. wrongfully terminated benefits

Insurance 11

SACRAMENTO – A Kern County woman has filed a suit seeking reinstatement of her long-term disability benefits.

Vicki Young filed a complaint on June 13 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California against Sun Life and Health Insurance Co. alleging violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she was found to be disabled under the terms of the insurance plan in 2010 and that her claim was suddenly terminated by the defendant in 2015. The plaintiff holds Sun Life and Health Insurance Co. responsible because the defendant allegedly terminated plaintiff's insurance benefits without providing any reasonable explanation nor performing adequate investigation and review for plaintiff's claim.

The plaintiff seeks payment of disability benefits due to her, payment of past due benefits, reinstatement to the plan, interest, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Glenn R. Kantor and Andrew M. Kantor of Kantor & Kantor LLP in Northridge.
