Phone 05

SAN FRANCISCO – A Florida woman alleges a California company repeatedly sent her text messages that she didn't want and has filed a class-action lawsuit in response.

Valerie Marie Moore filed a complaint on behalf of all others similarly situated on July 11 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Uber Technologies Inc. alleging violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in 2014, she received several text messages on her cellular telephone from the defendant regarding finishing her Uber application. The plaintiff holds Uber Technologies Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly kept on sending several text messages to plaintiff despite her requests for it to stop.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks statutory damages of $500 for each and every violation, treble damages of $1,500 for each and every violation, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Lesley Weaver of Block & Leviton LLP in Oakland.
