Los Angeles County man claimed to still owe on federal loan

LOS ANGELES – A Los Angeles County man allegedly has not paid back a U.S. Department of Education loan.

United States of America filed a complaint on Aug. 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Saleem R. Barakat, also known as Barakat R. Saleem, alleging that the individual failed to pay plaintiff for a debt he owed.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff, acting on behalf of the U.S. Department of Education, alleges Saleem R. Barakat failed to honor his promissory note to plaintiff by paying his debt on the agreed date.

The plaintiff seeks the principal amount of $6,317.18 plus interest in the sum of $4,339.57, ongoing interest at the rate of 62 cents and 72 cents per day administrative charge of $90.94 all legal fees and any other relief as this court deems just. They are represented by William I. Goldsmith and Michael L. Goldsmith of Goldsmith & Hull APC in Northridge.
