U.S. government claims a woman hasn't paid off her college loan

LOS ANGELES — The U.S. government has filed suit against an individual for alleged unpaid college debt.

The U.S. government filed a complaint Sept. 9 in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Cynthia A. Simmons, also known as Cynthia Simmons, alleging that she failed to settle her debt with the plaintiff.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that the United States of America suffered damages due to the unpaid debt. The plaintiff holds Cynthia A. Simmons responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to pay the principal amount of her debt to the plaintiff, plus interest.

The plaintiff seeks the principal amount of $1,075 plus interest of $197.02 with further interest at 3 percent per annum accruing at $0.12 per day, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. It is represented by William I. Goldsmith and Michael L. Goldsmith of Goldsmith & Hull A.P.C. in Northridge.
