Two companies accuse Amazon of patent infringement with Fire HD tablets, other devices

LOS ANGELES – Two companies with principal places of business in Irvine and San Jose allege Amazon has violated several of their patents with some of its devices.

Broadcom Corp. and Avago Technologies General IP (Singapore) Pte. LTD filed a complaint on Sept. 23 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Amazon.com Inc. and Amazon Web Services Inc. alleging patent infringement.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that they suffered damages to their business from having their patents infringed. The plaintiffs holds Amazon.com Inc. and Amazon Web Services Inc. responsible because the defendants' Fire HD 10 tablets, Dash buttons, FireTV and Amazon Elastic Transcoder and other products allegedly infringes the plaintiff's patents.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek enjoin the defendants, damages, exemplary damages, treble damages and any other relief as the court deems just. They are represented by Robert E. Freitas, Jason S. Angell and Jessica N. Leal of Freitas Angell & Weinberg LLP in Redwood Shores.
