LOS ANGELES -- Numerous record companies allege YouTube and others have committed copyright infringement.

UMG Recordings Inc., Capitol Records LLC, Warner Bros. Records Inc., Warner Music Latina Inc., Sony Music Entertainment US Latin LLC, Artista Records LLC, Atlantic Recording Corporation, Elektra Entertainment Group Inc., Fueled by Ramen LLC, Kemosabe Records LLC, Laface Records LLC, Nonesuch Records Inc., Wea International Inc. and Zomba Recording LLC filed a complaint Sept. 26 in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against PMD Technologie UG, doing business as YouTube-mp3, Philip Matesanz and Does 1-10, alleging that they distributed infringing copies of the plaintiffs' works.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that UMG Recordings Inc., Capitol Records LLC, Warner Bros. Records Inc., Warner Music Latina Inc., Sony Music Entertainment US Latin LLC, Artista Records LLC, Atlantic Recording Corporation, Elektra Entertainment Group Inc., Fueled by Ramen LLC, Kemosabe Records LLC, Laface Records LLC, Nonesuch Records Inc., Wea International Inc. and Zomba Recording LLC suffered damages to their businesses as the result of their work being infringed. The plaintiffs hold  PMD Technologie UG, doing business as YouTube-mp3, Philip Matesanz and Does 1-10 responsible because the defendants allegedly converted the plaintiffs' audio files into mp3 format in order for their users to be able to download them to their computers.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek to enjoin the defendants from further infringing the plaintiffs' works, statutory damages in the amount of $150,000 per infringed work, statutory damages of $2,500, actual damages, all legal fees and interest, and any other relief as thecourt deems just. They are represented by Peter I. Ostroff, Rollin A. Ransom and Charlie J. Sarosy of Sidley Austin LLP in Los Angeles.
