Yahoo faces another class action from user allegedly affected by data breach

Broadband

SAN JOSE – An Australian woman alleges her personal information was stolen in a recent data breach and has filed a class-action suit.

Maria Corso filed a complaint on behalf of all others similarly situated on Sept. 29 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Yahoo! Inc. alleging gross negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she suffered damages from having her personal information stolen in the defendant's 2014 data breach, which it announced in September. The plaintiff holds Yahoo! Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to implement safety features to ensure that its subscribers' sensitive information is safe.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks award damages to plaintiff, all legal fees and interest and any other relief as this court deems just. She is represented by Shawn A. Williams of Robbins, Geller, Rudman & Dowd LLP in San Francisco; Paul J. Geller, Stuart A. Davidson, and Jason H. Alperstein of Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd LLP in Boca Raton, Florida; and Joel H. Bernstein, Corban S. Rhodes and Ross M. Kamhi of Labaton Sucharow LLP in New York.
