A film producer sues director for allegedly selling his documentary without his knowledge

WESTERN — A film producer is suing Zatella Beatty, 214 Films, Inc., and DOES 1-20, director, citing alleged copyright infringement.

Mark Brown filed a complaint on Oct. 14, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against the defendants alleging that they sold plaintiff's copyrighted film to a television network.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he suffered damages from having his work sold without his permission. The plaintiff holds Zatella Beatty, 214 Films, Inc., and DOES 1-20 responsible because the defendants allegedly assumed ownership of plaintiff's documentary film and sold its rights to Showtime Networks, Inc. without plaintiff knowing.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks general damages, consequential damages, punitive and exemplary damages, restitution, to enjoin the defendant, actual damages in excess of $325,000 plus interest, injunctive relief, lost profits, all legal fees and interest, plus any other relief this court deems just.
