Man alleges Prudential wrongfully terminated disability benefits

Insurance 10

LOS ANGELES – Prudential Insurance Co. is accused of wrongfully terminating a Los Angeles County man's disability benefits.

Michael Wiley filed a complaint on Dec. 14 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against The Prudential Insurance Co. of America alleging breach of contract.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he became disabled, applied for disability benefits, and those benefits were terminated in January 2015. The plaintiff holds The Prudential Insurance Co. of America responsible because the plaintiff alleges he is unable to perform any occupation and meets the definition of "any occupation" of disability, while the defendant claims he does not meet this definition.

The plaintiff seeks full benefits that exceed $500,000 plus interest, general damages in the sum of $1 million, punitive and exemplary damages, trebling of any punitive damages, all legal fees and any other relief as this court deems just. He is represented by Glenn R. Kantor, Corinne Chandler and Andrew M. Kantor of Kantor & Kantor LLP in Northridge.
