LOS ANGELES – A business that claims it has a reputation as the "pawn broker to the stars" alleges another business is unfairly competing with it using a similar name less than 2 miles away.
Beverly Loan Co. Inc. filed a complaint on Dec. 29 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Western Division against Beverly Hills Loan and Jewelry LLC and Does 1 through 10 alleging trademark infringement and other counts.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that it suffered damages to its business from having its trademark used without its permission. The plaintiff holds Beverly Hills Loan and Jewelry LLC and Does 1 through 10 responsible because the defendants allegedly caused confusion to plaintiff's consumers by opening a business that uses similar trademarks as the plaintiff.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks general, special and statutory damages; treble damages; injunction against the defendant; all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. It is represented by Bryan King Sheldon and George Busu of Limnexus LLP in Los Angeles.
