LOS ANGELES – An insurance agent alleges she is owed thousands in unpaid commissions from her employer.
Rosslyn Muriu filed a complaint on Jan. 17 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against the West Coast Life Insurance Co. and Does 1-10 alleging breach of contract, fraud and unfair business practices.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she suffered damages from not being paid her commissions for insurance policies she sold while working for the defendant. She alleges she is owed $146,043.76 for commissions and an additional $121,099 in attorney's fees for lawsuits she defended on behalf of the defendant. The plaintiff holds West Coast Life Insurance Co. and Does 1-10 responsible because the defendant allegedly refused to pay commission to the plaintiff despite her demands.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages of $358,142.76, interest, punitive and treble damages, disgorgement of all allegedly ill-gotten profits, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just.
