Consumer files suit against JPMorgan Chase over collection calls

Phone 04

LOS ANGELES – An Ojai consumer claims a debt collector continued to call him after he sent multiple requests for the calls to stop.

William Wilburn filed a complaint on Feb. 6 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against JPMorgan Chase Bank N.A. and Does 1 through 10 alleging violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and the Rosenthal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in 2016, he suffered damages from receiving several collection calls on his cellular telephone. The plaintiff holds JPMorgan Chase Bank NA and Does 1 through 10 responsible because the defendants allegedly kept on calling the plaintiff despite his requests to stop calling him.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks injunction against the defendant, actual damages, $500 in statutory damages, treble damages of $1,500, all legal fees plus interest and any other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Kian Mottahedeh and John D. Sarai of SM Law Group, APC in Encino.
