Woman alleges Aetna Life Insurance has not paid disability benefits

Insurance 09

LOS ANGELES – A Los Angeles County woman alleges disability benefits have been withheld from her despite a previous court order.

Gloria Carrier filed a complaint on Feb. 6 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Aetna Life Insurance Co. and Does 1-10 citing the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, in 2009, she became disabled due to being diagnosed with cancer and other medical issues and was initially being paid disability benefits until July 2013. The plaintiff holds Aetna Life Insurance Co. and Does 1-10 responsible because the defendants allegedly refused to pay the plaintiff further disability benefits despite her several appeals and a court order.

The plaintiff seeks reimbursement for all plan benefits plus interest, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Christian J. Garris of Law Offices of Christian J. Garris in Los Angeles.
