Aetna Life Insurance Co. alleged to have not covered man's expenses to treat cancer

Insurance 05

LOS ANGELES – A Los Angeles County man alleges his insurer did not cover his cancer treatment.

Christopher Helman filed a complaint on Feb. 7 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Aetna Life Insurance Co. and Does 1-10 citing the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he incurred $30,000 in medical expenses to treat his prostate cancer. The plaintiff holds Aetna Life Insurance Co. and Does 1-10 responsible because the defendants allegedly denied plaintiff's claim for coverage for the procedure to treat his prostate cancer despite the fact the expenses are covered according to the plan.

The plaintiff seeks reimbursement for the total medical bills incurred by the plaintiff, interest, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Christian J. Garris of Law Offices of Christian J. Garris in Los Angeles.
