SAN FRANCISCO – An Alameda County man claims an online marketplace connection company kept sending him unwanted text messages.

Gregory Angell filed a complaint on behalf of all others similarly situated on March 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Doordash Inc. alleging violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he filled out an online form to become a driver for the defendant but later opted out. He alleges the defendant began sending him text messages reminding him to complete the profile and that he unsubscribed from receiving the texts in October 2016. The plaintiff holds Doordash Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly continued to send text messages to the plaintiff despite opting out and sending a confirmation message to him that he opted out.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks $500 in statutory damages, injunctive relief, $1,500 in statutory damages, and any other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Abbas Kazerounian and Matthew M. Loker of Kazerouni Law Group, APC in Costa Mesa.
