Former Aetna manager claims the company's self-funded plan wrongly terminated her benefits

Insurance 03

LOS ANGELES — An Aetna employee is suing Aetna Life Insurance Company doing business as Aetna Inc. Self-Funded Group Plan, and other individuals with the insurer, citing alleged breach of contract.

Joni Holdsworth, who formerly worked as a dental network manager for Aetna, filed a complaint on March 29 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against the defendants alleging that they denied plaintiff's claim for disability benefits.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, in 2005, she became disabled and was initially approved to receive disability benefits until they were terminated in October 2015. The plaintiff holds Aetna responsible because it allegedly terminated plaintiff's disability benefits based on its claim that she is no longer disabled, which plaintiff disputes.

The plaintiff seeks benefits payable to the plaintiff, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Gary L. Tysch of Law Offices of Gary L. Tysch in Encino.
