LOS ANGELES – Amazon.com Inc. and Amazon Logistics Inc. are alleged to have misclassified its delivery drivers.
Raef Lawson, in his capacity as private attorney general representative, filed a complaint on March 31 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Amazon.com Inc. and Amazon Logistics Inc. citing the Private Attorney General Act and California labor codes.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that the defendants classified drivers as independent contractors when they are actually employees. The plaintiff was a deliver driver in the Los Angeles area.
He alleges that because of the misclassification, he was not paid expenses such as gas and data usage for the Amazon application on his own phone. He also claims delivery drivers did not receive proper itemized wage statements.
The plaintiff seeks declare that the defendants violated the California labor code, all legal fees and any other relief as this court deems just. He is represented by Shannon Liss-Riordan of Lichten & Liss-Riordan PC in Boston.
