SAN FRANCISCO – A Santa Cruz corporation claims Microsoft unlawfully distributed its software.

Media Rights Technologies Inc. filed a complaint on April 6 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Microsoft Corp. and Does 1-1,000 citing copyright infringement.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that it suffered damages to its business from having its software openly used by users. The plaintiff holds Microsoft Corp. and Does 1-1,000 responsible because the defendants allegedly reproduced and distributed copies of plaintiff's MRT software.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks injunctive relief, award profits to the defendant, interest, all legal fees, damages, profits, and any other relief as the court deems just. It is represented by Ian N. Feinberg, M. Elizabeth Day and Marc Belloli of Feinberg Day Alberti & Thompson LLP in Menlo Park.
