SAN FRANCISCO – A Canadian man alleges he was discriminated against by a San Francisco hotel because of his age.

Jonathan Asselin-Normand filed a complaint on behalf of himself and the general public on March 29 in the San Francisco County Superior Court against Hotel Abri and Does 1 through 100 alleging negligence and the Unruh Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he visited the defendant's hotel in February 2015 and that he was 18 at the time of the visit. He alleges suffered damages from being denied accommodation because it was the hotel's policy that guests must be 21 to rent a room. The plaintiff holds Hotel Abri and Does 1 through 100 responsible because the defendants allegedly discriminated plaintiff by denying proper accommodation to him.

The plaintiff seeks compensatory and general damages, three times actual damages not less than $4,000, punitive damages, injunctive relief, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. He is representing himself.
