SAN FRANCISCO – A Marin County man alleges his former employer discriminated against him because of his age.

William Charles Long filed a complaint on June 13 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Bay Area News Group East Bay LLC, MediaNews Group Inc., et al. citing the Fair Labor Standards Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is in his 50s and was laid off by the defendants in November 2016 after more than 30 years of employment. He alleges younger workers with less seniority were retained. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly discriminated plaintiff due to his age and failed to provide proper accommodation, failed to provide meal and rest periods, failed to pay wages on established paydays and other counts.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages, general and special damages, statutory penalties, interest, exemplary and punitive damages, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Mani Sheik of Sheik Law Inc. in San Francisco.
