Sugarfina alleges Sweet Pete's candy packaging infringes trademark

LOS ANGELES – The Inglewood-based operator of candy boutiques alleges that a Florida company has unlawfully copied its packaging.

Sugarfina Inc. filed a complaint on June 15 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Sweet Pete's LLC, ML Sweets LLC, Peter Behringer and Allison Behringer alleging trademark and copyright infringement and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that it suffered damages to its business. The plaintiff holds Sweet Pete's LLC, ML Sweets LLC, Peter Behringer and Allison Behringer responsible because the defendants allegedly copied plaintiff's packaging in order to benefit from its reputation.

The plaintiff seeks enjoin the defendants, all damages, actual damages, profits, treble damages, punitive damages, all legal fees, and any other relief as the court deems just. It is represented by Jennifer Trusso Salinas, Andre De La Cruz and Jenny Kim of Troutman Sanders LLP in Irvine.
