Unum Life Insurance Co. of America accused of unlawfully terminating disability benefits

SAN FRANCISCO – A Santa Clara County individual alleges that her disability benefits were wrongfully terminated.

Jennifer Ramberg filed a complaint on June 22 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Unum Life Insurance Co. of America alleging violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she became disabled in 2001 and was initially receiving disability benefits until it was terminated in 2016. The plaintiff holds Unum Life Insurance Co. of America responsible because the defendant allegedly refused plaintiff's appeal for disability benefits despite still being disabled according to the terms of the plan.

The plaintiff seeks long-term disability benefits of approximately $28,000 as of the filing of this complaint and accumulating at the rate of $4,500 per month plus interest, reinstatement, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just.
