LOS ANGELES — A recording artist and director is suing a Los Angeles business, alleging copyright infringement.
Antonia Basilotta, professionally known as Toni Basil, filed a complaint Aug. 28 in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Jibjab Media Inc. and Does 1-50, alleging they used the plaintiff's copyright of her "Mickey Mouse Video" without any legal right to do so.
According to the complaint, Basil suffered damages from having her copyrighted work used without her consent. The plaintiff alleges the defendants used her works for their Mickey Mouse campaign.
The plaintiff seeks trial by jury, compensatory damages, consequential damages, punitive damages, actual damages, enjoin the defendant, disgorgement of all profits and proceeds earned, legal fees, interest and all other relief the court deems just. She is represented by attorney F. Edie Mermelstein of Fem Law Group in Huntington Beach.
