LOS ANGELES — A Santa Barbara County woman has filed a class action lawsuit against a California solar panel company, alleging unfair competition and violation of state law.

Armida Guzman filed a complaint, individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated, Sept. 4, in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Solarcity Corporation, alleging the defendant offers contracts to its consumers drafted in a language not known to them.

According to the complaint, in 2015, Guzman, who speaks only Spanish, suffered monetary damages from being forced into entering a contract for the installation of solar panels with the defendant. The plaintiff alleges Solarcity forced her to sign an English language contract despite her request for a Spanish translation.

Guzman seeks trial by jury, injunctive relief, order the defendant to return the plaintiff's money, restitution, disgorgement, all legal fees and all other relief the court deems just. She is represented by attorneys Matthew M. Loker of Kazerouni Law Group APC in Arroyo Grande, California, and by Joshua B. Swigart of Hyde & Swigart in San Diego.
