LOS ANGELES — An inmate is suing a Los Angeles County detention facility, alleging negligence and vicarious liability.

Victor Lopez filed a complaint Sept. 25 in the Superior Court of the State of California Los Angeles County against the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the county of Los Angeles, Twin Towers Correctional Facility and Does 1-100, alleging the defendants failed to exercise reasonable care in protecting inmates.

According to the complaint, while Lopez was incarcerated at the facility, the defendants' correction officers permitted other inmates to enter Lopez's cell to assault and batter the plaintiff. As a result of the defendants' negligence, Lopez said he sustained injuries to his head, body and limbs and incurred medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to provide Lopez with adequate medical care and medication despite awareness of his Parkinson's disease condition, exposed inmates to high-risk of danger, and failed to train, supervise and instruct staff to respect the rights of inmates.

Lopez seeks trial by jury judgment for general damages, medical and related expenses, attorney fees, court costs, and all relief the court deems just. He is represented by attorney Larry Rabineau of Law Offices of Larry Rabineau in Los Angeles.
