SACRAMENTO — A Fresno woman is suing a law firm, alleging violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

Aggie Thao filed a complaint Sept. 27 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California against Law Offices of Christopher Glenn Beckom ULRS, Inc., doing business as United Law Group, and Does 1-10, alleging they violated FDCPA through abusive, deceptive and unfair debt collection practices.

According to the complaint, Thao suffered emotional distress from receiving an initial communication from the defendants in its attempt to collect on a fraudulent debt. The suit says the debt was created as a result of fraud in that the plaintiff’s name was forged in a purported contract.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants threatened to file a lawsuit against her, misstated the amount of the debt and failed to send Thao a validation notice within five days of the initial communication.

Thao seeks trial by jury, actual and statutory damages, costs, attorney fees and all relief the court deems just. She is represented by attorney Jeremy S. Golden of Golden & Cardona-Loya LLP in Chula Vista.
