LOS ANGELES — A textile company is suing a San Diego competitor, alleging copyright infringement.

Universal Dyeing & Printing Inc. filed a complaint Oct. 23 in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Charlotte Russe Inc. and Does 1-10, alleging they distributed an intellectual property without authority from the owner.

According to the complaint, Universal Dyeing & Printing has suffered damages to its business and profit because of Charlotte Russe's wrongful conduct. The suit says the defendant distributed and/or sold fabric and/or garments featuring a design that is substantially similar to the plaintiff's copyrighted original two-dimensional artwork used for purposes of textile printing titled UA 14794.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants caused it to suffer lost profits and damages to its business, reputation and good will, and received money and profits that rightfully belong to the plaintiff.

Universal Dyeing & Printing seeks trial by jury, damages, award profits, attorney fees, interest, costs of action and all relief the court deems proper. It is represented by attorneys Stephen M. Doniger and Frank Gregory Casella of Doniger / Burroughs in Venice, California.
