Vehicle passenger alleges drunk driver caused collision

Car accident 17

FRESNO — A vehicle passenger is suing a motorist, alleging driving under the influence of alcohol caused a collision that injured the plaintiff.

Lacey Mangano filed a complaint Oct. 24 in Fresno County Superior Court against Mandy G. Galvez, also known as Mandy G. Vasquez, alleging Galvez violated the California Vehicle Code for driving under the influence of alcohol and driving on a suspended license.

According to the complaint, on Oct. 25, 2015, Mangano was with her father and sister traveling in a Jeep Wrangler on 18th Avenue in Fresno when they stopped at a four-way stop sign at the the intersection with Kamm Avenue. The suit says their vehicle was struck from behind by a Galvez's vehicle that was being driven at a high velocity.

As a result, Mangano says she sustained physical and emotional injuries requiring medical treatment and expenses. The suit says the Jeep Wrangler sustained more than $16,400 in the rear and side damages.

The plaintiff alleges Galvez, who was driving intoxicated, failed to stop at a posted stop sign, drove at an unsafe speed for the conditions endangering the safety of persons and property and rear-ending the vehicle in front of her.

Mangano seeks trial by jury, compensatory and punitive damages in excess of $25,000, plus costs of suit, and for all other fair, just and equitable relief. She is represented by attorney Richard Rumery of Visalia.
