FRESNO — A motorist and passenger are suing Selma and a city employee, alleging negligence caused a vehicle crash that injured the plaintiffs.
Vanessa De La Torre and Merissa De La Torre filed a complaint Nov. 30 in Fresno County Superior Court against the city of Selma and Michael Caleb Garcia, alleging they failed to exercise standard care and skill required in operating a vehicle.
According to the complaint, on March 17, the plaintiffs were driving at North Hughes Avenue and North Weber Avenue in Fresno. The suit says they were negligently run into by a city of Selma vehicle driven by Garcia.
The suit say the De La Torres suffered injuries and damages, including lost wages, loss of use of property, and incurred medical expenses, because Garcia, in the course and scope of his employment of the city of Selma, caused his car to collide with the plaintiffs' vehicle.
The plaintiffs allege Selma and Garcia failed to stop at a red traffic signal, and failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic.
The De La Torres seek trial by jury, compensatory damages of more than $25,000, costs of suit and all other relief the court deems just. They are represented by attorney Paul Grossman of Grossman Law Offices APLC in Fresno.
