LOS ANGELES — The parents of a disabled child are suing the Los Angeles school district, alleging breach of duty and disability discrimination.

Melissa Gordon and Robert Gordon filed a complaint Feb. 5 in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against the Los Angeles Unified School District, alleging violation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and the Education for All Handicapped Children Act.

According to the complaint, on April 24, 2017, the district had the responsibility for providing the free and appropriate education required by IDEA to eligible students like the Gordons' child E.G., a student with disabilities. The parents allege the school district procedurally and substantially denied the free and appropriate public education to their child during the applicable statutory period and within the limits of the law.

The Gordons seek trial by jury, attorney fees, expenses incurred, court costs, disbursements and all other just relief. They are represented by attorney Henry Tovmassian of Law Offices of Henry Tovmassian in Sherman Oaks.
