SACRAMENTO – A woman alleges her use of talcum powder products for the majority of her life caused her to develop cancer.
Kim Young and Carl Young filed a complaint on May 9 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California against Johnson & Johnson and Johnson & Johnson Consumer Cos. Inc. alleging failure to warn and other counts.
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that Kim Young used defendants' talcum products throughout her life until her initial diagnosis of ovarian cancer. The plaintiffs allege she was never warned that the normal use of the products would cause her to develop ovarian cancer as there was never any indication on the products' packaging.
The plaintiffs hold Johnson & Johnson and Johnson & Johnson Consumer Cos. Inc. responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to warn that the use of talcum powder-based products in the perineal area significantly increases the risk of cancer.
The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek compensatory damages of more than $75,000 with punitive damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, attorneys' fees, costs and such other and further relief as the court deems just and proper.
