SACRAMENTO – A Connecticut insurance marketing organization alleges a Yuba City business and individual made defamatory comments in a video that was uploaded to Facebook.

Family First Life LLC and Shawn Meaike filed a complaint on May 18 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California against Andrew Winnett and Legacy Builders Insurance Marketing Inc. alleging defamation, intentional interference and other counts.

According to the complaint, Winnett conducted a live, online video call in May on behalf of Legacy Builders and made "a number of false, injurious and defamatory comments" about the plaintiffs. The suit states this video was uploaded to Facebook.

The plaintiffs hold Winnett and Legacy Builders Insurance Marketing Inc. responsible because the defendants allegedly recorded and published the video and made defamatory statements intending to injure the plaintiffs in the profession.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against defendants for actual, compensatory and punitive damages; civil penalties; attorney's fees; costs; interest; injunctive relief; and other relief which the court deems equitable. They are represented by Nicholas W. Armstrong of Price Armstrong LLC in Birmingham, Alabama.
