SAN FRANCISCO – A citizen of Mexico alleges he was in a coma for several days after falling on a staircase while working aboard a cruise ship.
Flavio Mejia Romero filed a complaint on May 16 in the San Francisco County Superior Court against Princess Cruise Lines LTD and Does 1-10 alleging negligence and other counts.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Feb. 16, during the performance of his work duties on the defendant's M/V Grand Princess, he slipped because of a steep and negligently maintained stairway while carrying a heavy load. He alleges he was in a coma for several days after he was injured.
The plaintiff holds Princess Cruise Lines LTD and Does 1-10 responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide plaintiff with a safe place to work and proper tools and equipment to prevent injury, failed to properly supervise him and assigned plaintiff to duties beyond his capacity and capabilities.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants for general and special damages; for maintenance, found, care and cure; interest; costs of suit and further relief as the court may deem just. He is represented by John E. Hill of Law Offices of John E. Hill APC in Oakland and John R. Hillsman of McGuinn, Hillsman and Palefsky in San Francisco.
