LOS ANGELES – An Encino Messianic Christian alleges she was not hired for a job because of her unavailability to work on Saturdays because of her religious beliefs.
Teresa Dykzeul filed a complaint on July 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Charter Communications Inc. alleging religious discrimination.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges in October 2015, she applied for a sales position with the defendant. She alleges the defendant refused to hire her because her religious beliefs prohibit her from working on the Sabbath, which she observes from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown.
The plaintiff holds Charter Communications Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly refused to hire plaintiff because of her potential need for religious accommodation.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant for declaratory and injunctive relief, compensatory and economic damages, interest, punitive damages, attorney's fees, costs, and further relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Alan J. Reinach and Jonathon Cherne of Church State Council in Westlake Village.
