FRESNO – A Catholic school teacher alleges she was wrongfully terminated from her job from a Fresno school system.

Christine Beck filed a complaint on June 14 in the Fresno County Superior Court against Diocese of Fresno Education Corp., doing business as St. Aloysius Catholic School; Luan Sozinho; and Does 1-100, alleging breach of contract, wrongful termination and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was employed as a kindergarten and sixth-grade teacher for 18 years at St. Aloysius Catholic School. She alleges in September 2017, she confided to Sozinho, the principal, that she had been treated for night terrors and highway driving anxiety. She alleges she was sent home from work the same day and terminated in February.

The plaintiff holds Diocese of Fresno Education Corp., Sozinho, and Does 1-100 responsible because the defendants allegedly terminated her employment without probable cause and in bad faith.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants for special, general and punitive damages; attorney's fees; civil penalties; award of interest; costs of suit; and further relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Todd B. Barsotti of Todd B. Barsotti APLC in Fresno and Shelley G. Bryant of Bryant Whitten LLP in Fresno.
